Sekiya Ryusuke, a baby boy born weighing just 258 grams in October 2018, has proven his strength in life. He spent six months in the hospital before being able to go home, and now, at the age of six, he has graduated from kindergarten and announced his dream of what he wants to be when he grows up.

At 24 weeks and 5 days pregnant, Sekiya Ryusuke’s mother suffered from gestational hypertension and had to undergo an emergency cesarean section. The baby was born at just 22 centimeters tall and weighed less than an apple, so small that it could fit in the palm of an adult’s hand.

His mother once said, “The baby was so small that she could barely hear his cries. On March 25 , at a kindergarten graduation ceremony in Nagano Prefecture, Sekiya Ryusuke held up a police officer drawing he had drawn himself and confidently said into the microphone, “When I grow up, I want to be a police officer!”

Sekiya Toshiko’s mother thanked the kindergarten for taking care of her son and prayed for his health. “I just want my son to not get sick and go to school safely.”
